Noah Okafor will be nervous as Leeds enter the race for £43.4m-rated winger

Leeds United were one of the best attacking teams in the Championship last season. Daniel Farke’s tactics relied on wing play and wide combinations.

The Whites scored many goals last year, with Manor Solomon and Daniel James as the top scorers behind Joel Piroe. Even Wilfried Gnonto managed to chip in with crucial goals near the end of the season. But in the Premier League, Farke has abandoned that style as it was mostly ineffective early in the season. The switch to 3-5-2 has also improved the attacking play, allowing players like Noah Okafor and Brenden Aaronson to play closer to goal.

Leeds eye move for £43.4m-rated winger

The new system has worked in favour of Okafor and Aaronson, but the traditional wingers in the team like Dan James and Gnonto have suffered. They have barely made an impact this season, and do not pose any threat in wide areas.

Leeds lack quality in attack, which could be the reason why the club will make moves this summer. SportsBoom report that the Whites are one of the clubs with keen interest in Strasbourg’s Martial Godo. The winger is having a breakthrough season in France, and has scored 14 goals this campaign. Leeds see Godo as a fit for their new 3-5-2 system, appreciating that the attack thrives in transition attacks.

Strasbourg value the winger around £43.4 million after buying him from Fulham for just £5 million. Martial Godo will be an expensive buy, but his potential is said to be attracting the likes of West Ham and Aston Villa who are also keen on bringing him back to England.

Whites need quality out wide

If Leeds do launch a move for Martial Godo, it will not be at the expense of Noah Okafor. The Swiss winger has adapted perfectly under Daniel Farke this season. Rather, the Ivorian international will come in because of the lack of quality among the other options. Dan James has not been the same since his injury last year, and he is on a long-term contract, meaning he could be offloaded soon. And Wilfried Gnonto has rarely seen game time this season; the Italian has been linked with a return to his home country. Godo would be an upgrade and a breath of fresh air in the Leeds attack – he can score and create, and could fit into the attack nicely. 49ers want to improve the team, and this would be the signing to take them to another level.
