Before this season began, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made an interesting comment about the squad profiles. He said in a press conference that he wanted a specific type of number 10.

“I think it’s fair to say if there is a creative offensive player out there, like a number 10 position, then it is something that could be beneficial for our group,”

“Brenden Aaronson has been excellent this season and a key player for us. But we don’t have a similar player like him in our group. Of course we have players who can play in this role.

“If there is a solution for a creative midfield player it definitely make sense to stay awake.” (quotes via LeedsLive).

The German was intent on signing a creative number 10. Leeds spent the final week of the summer transfer deadline chasing Fabio Carvalho and Gus Hamer. But deals for both players fell through. The Whites had to do with Brenden Aaronson in the role for the rest of the season.

Aaronson has done a great job this season, but the feeling around the club is that he can be upgraded. Reports claim that Daniel Farke could revive interest in an old target.

Ben Jacobs is reporting that Leeds United could push to sign Aston Villa attacking midfielder Emi Buendia this summer. The club tried to sign the Argentine in January before he joined Leverkusen on loan.

If things fall into place, Farke will have a reunion with his former player.

Emi Buendia is a perfect fit for the 10 role

Buendia could definitely be an upgrade on Aaronson. His whole career has shown that the 28-year old can be productive when called upon.

He has been a rotation player in recent years, but still managed 17 goal involvements in the last two seasons at Villa Park. Leeds will definitely need another option in the number 10 role next season.
