Leeds United prepare ‘contingency plans’ for Ethan Ampadu sale

Ethan Ampadu was once again central to Leeds United’s performance on Monday night as they earned a 1-1 draw away at Tottenham.

The Leeds captain has arguably been the club’s most important player this season and has been the driving force behind a side that has now secured Premier League survival.

He covered every blade of grass against Spurs and was the player who won the penalty that ultimately helped Leeds come away from north London with a point.

Ampadu now has just one year left on his current deal, and although Leeds are expected to offer him a new contract, one journalist has suggested the club may need to move quickly if they want to keep hold of him.

Leeds are preparing for a potential Ethan Ampadu sale

The 27-year-old midfielder’s performances have not gone unnoticed this season, and several Premier League clubs have their eyes on him ahead of the summer.

Leeds have already been in discussions with his representatives over a new contract and are expected to hold further talks soon in an attempt to finalise an agreement on improved terms.

The club are confident that Ampadu wants to stay and are hopeful of negotiating a new long-term deal for the club captain in the coming days and weeks.

However, according to Football Insider, Daniel Farke and the Leeds recruitment team are also preparing for the worst-case scenario this summer.

The club are putting contingency plans in place to find Ampadu’s replacement in the upcoming window if an agreement can’t be reached over a new deal.

Ampadu is the heartbeat of the Leeds team, but the club are prepared to sell him if he doesn’t agree to sign a new contract this summer.

Leeds are ready to sanction midfield exits to raise funds and bring in fresh reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.

This will leave the Farke and the fans livid

Daniel Farke recently revealed his annoyance at Leeds’ failure to sort out the captain’s future and insisted that everyone knows what he wants.

Ampadu is his general on the pitch, and he would be absolutely livid if the Welshman is allowed to leave the club in the upcoming summer window.

It would also sour the supporters’ view of the 49ers if Ampadu’s future is not sorted out, as the club captain is hugely popular amongst the fanbase.

This is one contract situation the 49ers simply cannot afford to get wrong, especially after all the goodwill they have built up since Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League.
