Leeds United tipped to make big decision on star player

Leeds United will have some reshuffling to do in the near future as some players are set to leave next summer when their contracts expire.

During this summer transfer window, Leeds lost six players on a free. Robin Koch, Cody Drameh, Ian Poveda, Jamie Shackleton and Luke Ayling left the club for nothing.

Elland Road lost a long term servant in Luke Ayling, who even captained the club during his time. Unfortunately, Daniel Farke saw it fit to move on from the defender.

Ian Poveda, Cody Drameh and Jamie Shackleton also left the club after spending most of their career failing to break into the first team.

Robin Koch was one of the big signings when Leeds were promoted to the Premier League. The defender was one of the many players to look for a way out of the club as soon as the team was relegated.

In 2025, Junior Firpo, Sam Byram and Josuha Guilavogui could leave the club at the end of their contracts. The trio are free to discuss and agree deals from January 1st.

Sam Byram was given a second chance by Daniel Farke, and he delivered as he was a solid option last season as the club narrowly missed out on promotion. He has proven to be a very capable backup fullback for the club. Josuha Guilavogui was signed this season after an injury crisis saw the team lose Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev to long term injuries.

Junior Firpo could also bring his time at the club to an end. The left back joined from Barcelona when Leeds were in the Premier League. His first impressions left a lot to be desired as the fans complained about his injury problems and lack of availability. His contract is up next summer, and Leeds fan Simon Rix told BBC Sport, that the club should consider keeping him in the event they are promoted:

“Firpo is really interesting. I think a lot of people would say no straight away to him starting, but last time in the Premier League, he never really had a run of games.

“We don’t think he’s that good at defending but he does do some other good things, so for that reason I think he would be worth a go.

“But he is also out of contract so he might not even get the chance!”

Is Junior Firpo worth keeping?

Leeds United have seen the good and bad of Firpo during his time at the club. He is a wonderful attacking player, which showed as he provided seven assists in the league last season. However his defensive ability is poor and he’s always putting his team at risk with yellow cards. Leeds should at least postpone any decision on the player till the end of the campaign.
