As things stand, Leeds United have just one goalkeeper under contract this summer. Last week saw the Whites lose two first team options after their contracts expired.
The situation at Elland Road has changed drastically since last year.
Before the season began, Leeds had four goalkeepers in reserve and now they are down to one. Illan Meslier has left the club after not being offered a new deal last month.
Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns have been offered new contracts.
Reports suggest that Cairns will agree to a new deal, and is happy to stay on as backup keeper.
News has gone quiet on the Darlow front; he is a target of Everton and Manchester United. There is no confirmation on if he has made a decision about his future, but things are looking unlikely.
Leeds United tipped to sign World Cup star
Leeds United have already been actively searching for a goalkeeper in this transfer window.
The Whites have been linked with Parma’s Zion Suzuki, who was outstanding at the World Cup. Manchester City star James Trafford remains on their radar, with the club having been keen on him last year.
Derby County’s Jacob Zetterstrom was also on the radar. The Swedish international failed to answer to reports of links to clubs in England, including Leeds United.
Football Insider’s Mick Brown has suggested that the Whites go for Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
The 35-year old has been in sensational form since the World Cup began. His recent display as his side beat Brazil to make the quarterfinals will certainly have caught the eye of club’s across Europe.
He is currently a free agent after leaving Sevilla last month.

Orjan Nyland would be a solid addition
Leeds United already had one 35-year old keeper in goal last season, so a move for Nyland should definitely be considered.
He comes with experience, playing in the Premier League, La Liga and also the Champions League. Nyland was with Aston Villa as recently as the 2020 season, so he could consider a move to England.
Getting a top quality starter for this year should be the priority.
The club’s goalkeeping situation is still in crisis after Karl Darlow left the club. He has been offered a new deal, but there is interest from Everton and Manchester United.
A short-term deal could be the best option for both parties.
