Major Leeds injury blow confirmed as worrying statement emerges

Leeds United have not had it easy with injury luck over the international break. The team suffered one huge blow before a ball was even kicked.

Harry Wilson missed the last game against Crystal Palace and subsequently the international break. He was withdrawn from the Wales squad.

Daniel Farke will be hoping to have the midfielder back when league action resumes this weekend.

Leeds are up against Premier League holders Arsenal who have a point to prove. Three points off Manchester City following a shocking defeat to Brighton will have rocked the team.

Ahead of the game, Farke has another injury problem to deal with in the first team.

Jean-Matteo Bahoya picked up an ankle injury when France’s U21 side faced Luxembourg on Saturday. He lasted just 35 minutes, and was subbed off.

On Monday, the French Football Federation confirmed that the Leeds star had left camp.

“Already qualified for the UEFA U21 Euro 2027, the French team will have to do without Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Giovani Versini for their last qualifying match against Switzerland, this Tuesday (7pm) in Orléans.

“Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who injured his ankle, and Giovani Versini, who injured his leg, both during the match against Luxembourg, will not be sufficiently recovered for the match against Switzerland, this Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) at the Stade de la Source in Orléans. They are forced to withdraw and will leave the gathering this Monday.”

He will be assessed at Thorp Arch, but as things stand, his availability for this weekend’s game against Arsenal is questionable.

Huge setback for Leeds’ summer signing

Jean-Matteo Bahoya joined on deadline day with the club looking for options after letting Wilfried Gnonto join Fiorentina on loan.

It was later implied by club chief Robbie Evans that the French winger was a ‘project’ player that the club had long-term aspirations for. He is yet to properly settle into the team and only got his first taste of action before the international break.

This injury setback now slows his development for a few more weeks.

Bahoya has not fully adapted to life in England yet, and has a lot to work on towards that. This injury only slows down his progress going forward.

Hopefully, the injury is not a serious one and he recovers in time to be ready to play regularly for the first team.

Please explain the headline “major injury blow” followed by the revelation that a player whose total involvement up to now is two minutes and his injury has been reliably reported as minor.
