Arsenal edged out Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, in a closely fought encounter. However, two Gunners legends were at it on the sidelines.

Daniel Farke has every reason to be disappointed that Leeds didn’t get at least a point from their trip to the champions, especially after taking the lead in the second half.

The Leeds boss was not pleased with the referee’s performance, and Arsenal ultimately prevailed because they had too much quality on the bench, which proved to be the difference.

However, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown had a bone to pick with a former teammate of his after what the latter did at the Emirates on Saturday.

Martin Keown hammers Arsenal legend for Leeds support

The former Arsenal star didn’t take kindly to his ex-teammate, David Seaman, wearing a half-and-half scarf at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to watch the Leeds game.

Seaman played at the Leeds academy before making a name for himself at Arsenal, and Keown wasn’t too pleased to see him support the Whites.

Keown said on TNT Sports: “Well, yeah, David was there at Leeds as a kid, but they showed him the door.

“So that’s a surprise seeing him wear that; it should be a total Arsenal scarf.”

Seaman responded on X: “Can’t believe how much flak I’m getting for my half and half scarf at the ARSLEE game today.”

The former Arsenal star insisted Leeds seem to have built a base for a good season, as they now have real squad depth.

He said: “It’s interesting with Leeds at the moment, because when David O’Leary was manager there, he came in off the back of George Graham.

“He built the foundations, and David came in and gave them a little bit more freedom, where the youngsters were allowed to play.

“Maybe they’re in a similar place right now. It’s a momentum club; the atmosphere there is remarkable. A one-club city as well, with huge support.

“Leeds have got a great history, so they can get back there quite quickly, and there is strength in depth now in the squad that was not always there.”

Europe is no longer a pipe dream

Leeds qualifying for Europe might sound ambitious, but it is not entirely unrealistic. Daniel Farke’s side have shown they can compete, though the defeat to Arsenal reminded them of the challenge ahead.

Consistency will be key. Leeds must turn competitive performances into wins, particularly against teams around them, while injuries and squad depth could test their resources over a long season.

For now, the priority should be to establish themselves comfortably in the Premier League. But if Leeds keep improving, make Elland Road a fortress, and collect points on the road, why rule out Europe? It remains a long shot, but certainly not impossible.

Martin Keown was a great professional. His comments about David Seaman are childish, disrespectful to such a great goalkeeper and also Leeds United. He has no idea as to the reasons David was released from Leeds & should do some homework before talking drivel. In short Martin, grow up you petty one club prat. 🖕
