“Newcastle will beat Leeds United” – Paul Merson

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has already ruled out Leeds chances of beating Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.

Newcastle United, according to Merson, will finish the season “well up there” in the Premier League. Leeds United visit St. James Park on New Year’s Eve, and the Magpies will try to cap off 2022 on a high note.

Leeds have taken a nosedive in form since the end of last season, with Newcastle the opposite – Eddie Howe has them contending for a European place. The toon army could start 2023 in a Champions League spot by beating Leeds.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Amazing. They blew them (Leicester) away. I thought it would be a difficult game. I thought back after the break, this would be the test but they jumped out the traps and they were outstanding. They were really professional. They’re a team. They play as a team. They all work for each other. They all know when to go when they close down, they all go. They’re well drilled with some flair in the team as well and some match winners.

“They’ve got Leeds at home next and I expect them to beat Leeds and then all of sudden, the big game against Arsenal. I don’t think they’re going to go away. I think they’re going to be right up there. I don’t see them losing three games on the trot. They’re a very good team.”

Ruling Leeds before the match is a very bold prediction, lets hope the Whites show them up this weekend.
