Premier League club Everton settled with Leeds United out of court after the case run for a while. But Burnley are yet to find a resolution to the case entirely.

The toffees were found to have breached Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) back in 2022. Leeds and Burnley, among other clubs, are adamant that it cost them a place in the top flight.

Because of that, the Clarets are seeking a £50 million settlement from the Merseyside club. For breaching PSR, Everton were handed a 10-point deduction, which was reduced to six points after an appeal.

A hearing on the Burnley case with Everton is set to conclude in June, but there is currently no timeline on a potential verdict.

Premier League could change rules with Leeds and Everton drama

Leeds United on the other hand, managed to resolve the dispute with the Premier League club. They settled the issue out of court, but the details of the finances are yet to be disclosed.

The Whites did not pursue the case further because they felt it would not be strong enough to take to court. Burnley on the other hand are still pursuing the case.

The future of these PSR financial issues could be handled differently according to the latest news.

Mark Kleinman of Sky News has revealed that the Premier League could potentially allow clubs to negotiate settlements over financial breaches.

Previous financial breach cases were referred to an independent commission for a ruling, but now clubs could speed up that process. Sources say that clubs will be keen as this would simplify decisions after teams are charged.

Per the report, top flight clubs will be asked to vote on the plan in the Premier League’s annual meeting next month.

Leeds have to avoid any financial breaches going forward

The Whites have battled with PSR over the past few seasons. The 49ers pumped a lot of money into the team when they were in the Championship, which caused some issues this year.

During the last summer and winter transfer windows, Leeds had to press pause on some transfer deals. The club tried to structure a loan for Jorgen Strand Larsen in January, but Wolves wanted cash up front.

This summer gives the team a huge chance to clear out the squad and make some revenue on transfers. There are couple of players set to go off the books, while others could be sold to ease any potential financial breaches.
