Leeds United confirmed safety in the Premier League over a week ago, and now the club can focus on next season. A key part of this will be the summer transfer market.
The club’s owners made a mistake a few years ago, when Marcelo Bielsa was not backed following a successful season in 2020. The Whites returned to the top flight and finished in the top half of the table.
But the failure to augment the squad with new signings eventually lead to their downfall, and they were relegated in 2023.
Recruitment last summer played a big role in the club surviving in the league this season. The 49ers managed to bring in solid first team starters like Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Anton Stach.
Leeds United eye move for star midfielder
A few weeks ago, club sources confirmed that Leeds United were drawing up a shortlist of potential targets. The team have to add quality to the squad if they hope to stay up next season.
Leeds have recently been linked with Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann; the 24-year old has been great in Ligue 1 this season. He has attracted interest from multiple clubs in England including the Whites.
Many are tipping Tessmann to leave the French club this summer. French media outlet Le Progrès are reporting that Lyon value the midfielder around £13 million going into the transfer market.
The report adds that if Leeds are able to satisfy this transfer fee, and agree personal terms with the player, a deal is very possible. Lyon will reportedly not ‘stand in the way’ of the 24-year old if a good enough offer comes in.
He is a great player, but the Ligue 1 side see him as a valuable market opportunity in the coming months.

49ers need to be proactive
Tanner Tessmann is coming off the back of a great season, and will be a prime option to make the World Cup squad. If he does make the trip and perform, his value has the potential to sky rocket.
So if the 49ers want to get him for a decent fee, they need to push to sign him before the competition. As seen in the last summer window, £13 million is something the Whites can afford.
Their recruitment has been based on getting quality players from top leagues on great deals. Tessmann ticks all the boxes, and would be a very good addition to the first team.
