Leeds United moved closer to securing their Premier League status on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Burnley at Elland Road, opening up a nine-point gap above the relegation zone.
Things tightened up again on Saturday, though, as West Ham were beaten 3-0 by Brentford at the GTech Stadium, adding more tension to the fight at the bottom.
With Tottenham and Nottingham Forest still to play this weekend, there is likely to be more drama before this set of Premier League fixtures comes to a close.
Spurs are currently in action against Aston Villa in the Midlands. However, there is a feeling that Tottenham must beat Leeds at home a week from Monday to have any chance of Premier League survival.
Tottenhm make huge appeal to fans ahead of the Leeds clash
The north London club are aware of the importance of the game against Leeds, and are counting on the fans to turn the stadium into a cauldron.
Tottenham have sent an email to supporters asking them to submit personalised flags, which the club plans to display around the stadium before the Leeds match.
The email read: “Ahead of the Leeds game (11 May), we are inviting fans to send in their Spurs flags. We will be hanging them in every stand and every corner throughout the stadium, working with THFC Flags to create a fortress of flags and a sea of Lilywhite throughout the stands.
“If you have got a flag you would like us to display, complete this form and send it to us. We will store your flags safely between matches and put them on display before each game – including a flag designed by our Junior Supporters’ Group.
“We kindly ask that all flags adhere to our Flags and Banners policy, and that you complete the form above no later than 12 pm on 8 May.
“We will then contact you to let you know once your flag has been pre-approved for display. If we receive more flags than we have room to accommodate, we will display flags in rotation across our future home games.”
Spurs tried something similar earlier in the season, and it turned out to be an embarrassment
Before their home game against Nottingham Forest ahead of the international break, Tottenham looked to whip up an intense atmosphere by encouraging fans to arrive early and turn the stadium into a real cauldron.
Spurs fans turned out in thousands to welcome the home team bus ahead of the game and tried their best to help the team recover.
However, the players flattered to deceive, and Forest hammered Spurs 3-0 to further push them towards relegation from the Premier League.
Tottenham fans showed up to create a fervent atmosphere, but players failed, and the club were left with their tail firmly between their legs.
It seems they are trying to do the same ahead of the Leeds fixture, but they would need their players to turn up as well to beat an in-form Whites team.
