Ex-Leeds star slams Tottenham decision that could relegate them: “The biggest mistake…”

Leeds United took a big step towards safety on Friday night, beating Burnley 3-1 at Elland Road to move nine points clear of the relegation zone and put themselves in a strong position to stay up.

Saturday’s results added fresh intrigue to the battle at the bottom, with West Ham going down 3-0 to Brentford at the GTech Stadium.

Tottenham and Nottingham Forest still have games to play this weekend, so there could be more twists in the relegation fight before this round of Premier League fixtures wraps up.

Spurs have a big chance to climb out of the relegation zone if they beat Aston Villa later today, but former Leeds star Stephen Warnock feels Tottenham could still pay for a huge mistake.

The former Leeds star hammers Tottenham for a horrible decision

Roberto De Zerbi seems to have brought some stability and sparked hopes of survival with four points from Tottenham’s last two Premier League games.

However, Stephen Warnock has insisted that Spurs could end up paying the price of appointing Igor Tudor and allowing him the time to sink the team further into trouble.

He believes that if De Zerbi had been appointed when Spurs sacked Thomas Frank earlier in the year, Tottenham would have been out of trouble by now.

Warnock said on the BBC’s Football Focus: “The biggest Tottenham made was bringing in Igor Tudor before bringing in someone like him [De Zerbi].

“If he had the time that Igor Tudor was given from then until the end of the season, I don’t think Spurs would be in this position.”

The Whites may control Spurs’ destiny

Daniel Farke has been careful not to get carried away, insisting nothing is done until Leeds are mathematically safe, even with their current points total and only three games left.

They could already be secure by the time they face Tottenham a week on Monday, but Farke and his players are unlikely to ease off before the season finishes.

Spurs will be hoping Leeds arrive in north London with less pressure, especially as it could be a must-win game for them in their fight for survival.

Leeds also head to the London Stadium on the final day to take on West Ham United, and that match could play a big role in deciding who goes down this season.
