Leeds United ended their Premier League season with a defeat away to West Ham. Despite this, there is increasing optimism about the club’s future.
Daniel Farke has been speaking to the media in recent weeks about what the ownership need to do this summer. The key will be to repeat the good recruitment they had last year in order to beef up the team.
Leeds signed Jaka Bijol, Anton Stach, Gabriel Gudmundsson Dominic Calvert-Lewin in one window – four staring calibre players.
Now the hard part is to follow that up going into their second Premier League season after being promoted. Most clubs make the mistake of not adding to their team after the first season.
That was what caused the Whites’ decline under Bielsa after 2020, and what lead them to their eventual relegation.
Leeds United eye move for midfield star
Reports have emerged in recent weeks that the club is already working behind the scenes ahead of the summer window. Leeds United have been linked with many players over the last couple of weeks.
The latest name is Philadelphia Union midfielder Jovan Lukić. According to journalist Lorenzo Lepore, Leeds and Celta Vigo are monitoring the 24-year old’s situation ahead of the summer.
Lukić is highly rated after a stellar season last year in the MLS, and has interest from across Europe. However, the report adds that as of now, there is no discussion of a potential transfer deal between either party.
No fee has been mentioned for the Serbian star, and there is not indication that Philadelphia Union will be willing to sell.

Jovan Lukić should fit Leeds’ recruitment
Since last summer, the team has targeted quality which comes with a decent fee. The likes of Gabriel Gudmundsson and Anton Stach arrived for just around £20 million combined and have been solid starters.
Jovan Lukic arrived in the MLS for around £500,000 and his current value on Transfermarkt sits at £2 million. If Philadelphia are open to selling him, that would be around the price range – more than double the fee they paid for him.
Getting a player at a great age and level for that fee has worked out for the Whites recently; Ao Tanak and Wilfried Gnonto are evidence of this.
If Leeds do get Lukic, it would be a great move. The club needs depth in midfield after what happened last season, and adding some quality is the best way forward.
