There were a lot of mixed emotions on Sunday in the game between Leeds United and West Ham. Going into the final day of the season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side knew they had a job to do.

A win and other results going their way would have sealed their place in the Premier League for next season.

Leeds on the other hand, wanted to end their first campaign back in the top flight with a win, after wrapping up their last home game of the season with three points against Brighton.

Things did not go the way of the away team as West Ham took the lead in the 67th minute of the game. They piled the pressure on and got their breakthrough late in the match.

Jarrod Bowen added a second 12 minutes later, and Callum Wilson scored the third in added time.

West Ham ran out 3-0 winners in their final game of the season, but were still relegated as Spurs beat Everton.

The travelling Leeds supporters did not have the best of days as their side lost heavily in the final game of the season. But Daniel Farke’s men were outplayed by a Hammers side who wanted it more.

Leeds fans however, did have some fun at the expense of West Ham supporters in the stands.

When the Whites were 2-0 down, the team started a chant singing ”2-0 and you’re going down” while the game was still going on.

It was a light hearted moment as they found a way to entertain themselves in the middle of a disappointing performance from Farke’s team.

Mixed feelings in defeat to end the season

Losing 3-0 on the final day of the season is nothing to cheer about, but Leeds fans deserve to celebrate.

Making it back to the top flight and having this kind of season is not what many newly-promoted clubs do. They survived relegation and made a trip to Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final.

Simon Jordan even pointed that out weeks ago that the team had had a ‘successful’ season.

The key now is to build on these performances going into next season. And it will be up to the 49ers to get things right in the summer and give the team a fighting chance next year.

Luckily, we can take a joke. Hope Leeds supporters can do the same next season when DCL reverts to type and spends most of his time on the treatment table, while his team have to once again scrap just for 17th place.
