Aston Villa set to deal Leeds major transfer blow this summer

Despite Leeds United enjoying a phenomenal first season back in the Premier League, the Whites look as though they will face some difficulties in the upcoming summer transfer window.

With Leeds’ draw against Bournemouth last night taking United to 40 points for the season, courtesy of a stoppage-time equaliser from Sean Longstaff,  the 49ers can begin to plot transfers for the summer knowing Leeds will likely still be in the top flight.

Ladislav Krejci looks as though he could sign for Leeds following Wolves’ relegation, with the defender reportedly favouring a move to West Yorkshire over Brighton.

This does not mean that every target the 49ers lay their eyes on will end up at Elland Road, however, with Aston Villa set to poach one of the Whites’ long-term transfer targets.

Aston Villa look set to sign Harry Wilson on a free transfer

Leeds came agonisingly close to securing Wilson’s signature last summer before the proposed deal collapsed and the Welsh winger ultimately stayed put at Fulham to play out the final year of his contract.

Although Leeds have continued to be linked with going back in for the 29-year-old in the summer, the latest reports from Wales Online suggest that Wilson may have other plans.

The report states that Wilson is ready to join Aston Villa on a free transfer come the end of the season, with Unai Emery’s side likely being able to offer the winger European football and potentially, Champions League football if they finish the season strongly.

Villa are said to be willing to double Wilson’s wages and offer him a deal worth around £100,000 per week, as Leeds will likely be forced to watch on as one of their top transfer targets signs for their Premier League rivals.

However, with a bumper pay rise and the attraction of European football, it is hard to blame Wilson for snubbing the Whites in favour of Villa if Leeds supporters are objective about things.

Data suggests losing out on Harry Wilson will be a big miss for Leeds

The fact that Wilson looks set to snub Leeds in favour of Villa is made all the worse when you consider the excellent season the winger is having for Fulham.

The Welshman is a proven Premier League-quality player, but as he begins to enter his prime years, Wilson’s output has become even more impressive.

  • In 31 total Premier League appearances this season, Wilson has scored 10 goals
  • He also has six assists to his name and has created eight big chances
  • The winger also averages 1.1 key passes per game (Sofascore)

The only positive for Leeds to take is that they have plenty of time to pivot and identify other suitable targets who are capable of playing on the right wing under Daniel Farke next season.
