Fabrizio Romano confirms talks as Nottingham Forest set to beat Leeds United to £40m target

Leeds United made a brilliant start to the season with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. However, they have work to do in the transfer market.

With just a week remaining in the transfer window, Leeds are up against the clock to address several key positions before the September 1 deadline.

Leeds are yet to sort out a backup goalkeeper amid talk of Lucas Perri wanting to leave the club before the window closes, and the Whites also need a backup left-back due to Gabriel Gudmundsson’s fitness concerns.

However, Leeds are definitely in the market for a striker, and one of their favoured targets is closing in on a move to Nottingham Forest before the end of this week.

Leeds United set to lose out to Nottingham Forest in race for striker

The Whites have been assessing several strikers as they seek to bring in someone good enough not only to partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the team but also to play in his place when needed.

Chelsea’s Liam Delap has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds United this summer, and he is one of the names the club have given serious consideration.

However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Nottingham Forest are now closing in on Delap, with direct talks between the two clubs expected.

Forest are pushing to secure a deal to sign the forward, and considerable progress has taken place behind the scenes.

Journalist Ben Jacobs later revealed that advanced negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs and Forest expect to finalise a deal in the coming days.

Delap is happy to join Forest, and he is expected to be in place at the City Ground before the end of the week.

He is likely to leave Chelsea and join Forest on a loan deal for the season. It is unclear whether the Midlands club will have an option to buy.

Leeds should make a concrete move for Zian Flemming

The 28-year-old Dutchman finished last season as Burnley’s leading Premier League scorer, finding the net 11 times in just 29 appearances.

Flemming managed to make a real impact despite playing for a struggling side, and his performances have understandably attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

Only Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored more league goals than Flemming among Leeds’ current squad last season, while Noah Okafor finished three goals behind the Burnley forward.

With Premier League experience already under his belt and a proven record in front of goal, Flemming looks like exactly the kind of opportunity Leeds should be looking to take advantage of before the transfer window closes.
