Leeds United welcome Wolves to Elland Road on Saturday, with the Whites still riding high following their remarkable victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Daniel Farke’s side will be entering the game on a real high and will know that the game against Wolves is an ideal opportunity to pick up another three points that would all but secure United’s Premier League status for next season.
Noah Okafor will be looking to carry on his exceptional form as of late, with the winger recording six goal contributions in his last six outings for Leeds.
Previewing the game, Paul Merson gave his thoughts on the relegation six-pointer and also offered a stern warning to Farke’s men.
Paul Merson offers Leeds relegation warning
Although Leeds are expected to pick up a positive result against Wolves, with notable pundits like Alan Shearer predicting the Whites to win, they will know they cannot afford to be complacent going into the game.
Like Shearer, Merson predicted Leeds to win in his latest column for SportsKeeda, but fears that if they lose to the teams around them, like Wolves, then they could still be pulled back into the relegation battle.
“Barring the last 15-20 minutes, when they were hanging on, Leeds absolutely destroyed Manchester United in their last game. It should have been three or four-nil early on, and (Manchester) United can consider themselves lucky to have not conceded more than two goals,” Merson said.
“Leeds are playing well. Even though they rode their luck towards the end, their passing and movement were excellent at Old Trafford. You’d be shocked if they were relegated from here!
“If Leeds win, they can go nine points clear of Tottenham. So this is a must-win game for them. I say that also because of the games they have coming up.
“Leeds face Burnley, Wolves, Tottenham and West Ham before the end of the season. Those are all teams in and around them in the league table. If they end up dropping points to these teams, they can land in trouble.”
Despite offering this warning to the Whites, Merson tipped them to win 2-0 tomorrow in what he feels would be a “huge win in the context of the relegation battle.”
Leeds have a golden opportunity to do something for the first time this season
Despite Leeds having an incredibly impressive season up to this point, remarkably, they have yet to win back-to-back league games upon their return to the top flight.
Farke’s side has an ideal opportunity to make this a reality at the weekend, with Wolves travelling to West Yorkshire after having two defeats and a draw in their last three outings in all competitions.
Wolves are also yet to win an away game in the Premier League this season, and hopefully for Leeds, this poor run continues.
Wolves did recently win back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Liverpool, however, at the back end of February and the first week of March, reminding the Premier League that on their day, they are still able to cause an upset.
