Leeds tipped to deal Frank Lampard major transfer blow

Leeds United are still weeks away from the end of the season, but the club needs to look into the future. Despite spending over £100 million last summer, there are still holes in the squad that need work.

The attack has been a serious concern as the season has progressed; it has been something Daniel Farke pointed out previously. Leeds spent around £18 million on Noah Okafor, while adding Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha on free transfers. And even though the trio have been very bright sparks this season, it has not been enough. Every time the team plays, they look incapable of killing off games when they have momentum and this has cost them points this season.

Leeds United eye move for Coventry City star

Outside the attack, the goalkeeping situation is still a problem. Despite bringing in Lucas Perri for a huge fee in the summer, the Brazilian was dropped midway through the season. Karl Darlow was put in between the sticks, and the results have backed him continuing during the season.

The 49ers seem to have recognized that and are planning to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. According to Football Insider, the Whites are keen on Carl Rushworth. The young goalkeeper has been outstanding in Coventry City’s promotion campaign, and has caught the eye of some clubs. Rushworth is on loan from Brighton, and could be available in the coming months. Coventry are said to be keen on signing him on a permanent deal, so Leeds’ Premier League status come this summer could play a key part.

Rushworth kept 16 clean sheets in the Championship, and has only conceded 42 goals so far. He will definitely be keen on a summer move to get playing time next season.

49ers need to address goalkeeping situation

This summer will see three first team goalkeepers out of contract; Karl Darlow, Illan Meslier and Alex Cairns. So depending on who leaves, the Whites might have to dip into the market for a new player. Leeds will have to decide if they want to keep Darlow around considering how great he has been this season. With just months left on his contract, he could be attracting interest from other sides. Meslier is out of Daniel Farke’s plans, and is most likely to leave Elland Road this summer. So getting a new goalkeeper could be high on the 49ers’ list in the coming transfer window.
