Leeds United brought in 10 new signings during the summer transfer window. The Whites did some great recruitment bringing in players who brought instant impact.
But even with their success in finding players, Leeds could have done much more in the window. The club failed with multiple moves for quality players in attack. Rodrigo Muniz, Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson were some of the other targets that did not pan out. Leeds United failed with a bid for Muniz early in the window, Buonanotte chose to join Chelsea on loan and a deadline day move for Wilson failed when Fulham pulled the plug.
Another Leeds target who fell through the cracks was Igor Paixao. The Brazilian was a serious target for the Whites last summer, after he came off an impressive season with Feyenoord – getting 18 goals and 14 assists in all competition. He was highly sought after by multiple European clubs, with the 49ers making a push to sign him. The Brazilian’s camp was approached and given a proposal, but the player eventually chose to join Marseille in Ligue 1.
Leeds United could be back in for £30m after latest development
And in an unexpected turn of events, a move to Elland Road could be a serious possibility this summer. FootMercato are reporting that Marseille have a ‘gaping hole’ in their finances after missing out on the Champions League. The club were already in the red last year, and it is anticipated to be a much worse situation this coming summer. The DNCG, responsible for the finances of clubs in French football, will be auditing Marseille’s books in the coming months.
The Ligue 1 side must make as much money as possible before 30th June, which could lead to massive sales. The report says a handful of Marseille’s first team players, including Paixao, will be for sale.

Igor Paixao would be a great addition
The Brazilian was not really a first choice option for Marseille this season, but he still managed 12 goals and six assists in all competitions. His profile would be a great fit for Leeds United – he is a winger who is direct and can score goals, much like Noah Okafor. The Whites would also need an upgrade on Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto. And due to Marseille’s financial troubles, he could be available on a cut-price deal in order to ease the French club’s status.
