Details emerged this week that Leeds United are preparing for this summer’s transfer window behind the scenes. There are still weeks to go till the end of the season in England.
But the report claims that the 49ers are still compiling their list of potential summer targets. Leeds have also acknowledged that any potential transfers in the coming months will be delayed due to the World Cup. Teams will be keen to draw out potential negotiations and talks in hopes their stars can perform at the tournament and increase potential interest and transfer fees.
Leeds United set to offer two-year deal to free agent
Club sources also confirmed this week that any reports of a deal for Sporting CP midfielder Hidemasa Morita were untrue. The Japanese star was said to not be in the age bracket or midfield profile Leeds United were after heading into the transfer window.
Morita is set to be a free agent this summer after a long stint with the Portuguese side. And according to news outlet A Bola, Leeds United are ready to offer him a two-year contract. This comes with the option of an extra year; the midfielder is said to be keen on moving to Elland Road, but only if the Whites stay in the Premier League.
The report adds that Hidemasa Morita is one step away from signing with the club, and will fully commit if they are able secure another season in the top flight. It is believed that Daniel Farke sees Morita as a pivotal piece as he transforms this current Leeds side into a team that can dominate possession.

Hidemasa Morita will give Leeds’ midfield a different dimension
The Japanese international would arrive with a lot of experience playing in Europe; Sporting CP have also played in the Champions League during his time at the club. He will offer a calm head in the middle of the park with his playing style. Morita’s skillset fits a deeper role in midfield as he can orchestrate – a skill not many of the club’s midfield options currently possess. The 30-year old would be ideal playing alongside the likes of Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach in the middle of the park.
Hidemasa Morita is exactly the type of recruitment that the 49ers have done a great job with over the past few seasons. Signing quality players for affordable fees to improve the team in multiple areas. This is what can give them the edge over other clubs in the league, and give them enough quality to battle ‘bigger’ clubs.
