Leeds United are fully focused on building on last season’s 14th-place finish in the Premier League and are keen to improve several areas of their squad.

Paraag Marathe, the Leeds chairman, has already insisted that the club will be more ambitious without being reckless in the market. They want to work within the confines of the Premier League’s new financial rules.

Daniel Farke wants to bring in upgrades in several areas of his squad, and adding more creativity and flair to his team remains one of the manager’s key concerns ahead of the summer.

Leeds also want to sign a few Premier League-proven players, and the club’s interest in Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott has been growing.

Fresh twist in Leeds’ pursuit of Harvey Elliott

Harvey Elliott spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, but didn’t play much football due to circumstances beyond his control.

Liverpool have been keen to sell him, and Leeds have shown interest in getting their hands on the attacking midfielder in the ongoing transfer window.

Elliott has also been open to the idea of moving to Elland Road for a fresh start in his career, and the Reds are believed to be ready to accept a fee of £25m.

However, Liverpool’s decision to sack Arne Slot on Saturday had given a fresh dimension to the saga surrounding the former Fulham academy product.

Slot was ready to sell the attacking midfielder, and the change in the manager’s dugout could lead to a different decision on Elliott.

Andoni Iraola is expected to become the new Liverpool manager, and it is unclear what stance he would have on the player once he joins the club.

The arrival of a new manager could lead to the possibility of Elliott staying at Anfield, as no one actually doubts his talent as a footballer.

Leeds may have to wait

Elliott, until recently, was keen to move on from Liverpool and get a fresh start, as he has no future under Slot. But that scenario has changed.

Iraola, once he becomes the Liverpool manager, would want to have a closer look at all the players and assess them during pre-season before a decision is made.

Leeds remain interested in the attacking midfielder, but they may now have to wait until deep into the summer before a decision on Elliott’s future is made.

They may wait until Iraola decides on the player to move on to other targets, as Farke would want a majority of his signings in place before pre-season.
