Frank Lampard makes bizarre Leeds comment following Coventry City’s loss to Arsenal

Leeds United will kick off their Premier League campaign away to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Fans will be excited for the start of the new season after what they have seen this summer.

The new additions to the team have been impactful in pre-season, and more signings could be on the way.

Leeds have also fared very well in their friendlies leading up to this weekend; getting impressive results against very good competition.

Daniel Farke will be hoping his side can replicate their start to last year’s campaign. The Whites managed to grab a late win against Everton in front of the Elland Road crowd.

Frank Lampard makes Leeds United comment after opening day defeat

This year’s newly-promoted Premier League side Coventry City failed to do that on Friday night.

Frank Lampard’s men were no match for league holders Arsenal, who made light work of the away side at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s team put three goals past Coventry City in a dominant performance.

After the game, Lampard reacted to the defeat, pointing to Leeds United losing 5-0 at the Emirates in their first Premier League away game last year.

“Every game won’t look like that. This is an Arsenal team buoyed by where they are at the moment. This was a team that was built and coached to get to this,” Lampard said to Sky News.

“I’m more concerned about the personality. I think we were a little bit timid in the first half. It’s hard. Leeds came here and lost the first game 4-0 and stayed in the Premier League. Players will get better, fitter. There are adjustments for us to make and we’ll make them.”

The Coventry City boss was trying to make a point, but got the facts woefully wrong; Leeds lost 5-0 and it was their second game of the season.

Coventry City have a long way to go to emulate Leeds

Frank Lampard did speak ahead of the season, saying that Leeds United and Sunderland were the model his club were looking at this season.

Both clubs managed to survive relegation last year, with impressive signings in the summer transfer window.

Coventry City still had a lot of players from their promotion campaign in the starting lineup on Friday night. They need a lot of business to go through before deadline day if they want to stand a chance at avoiding a return to the Championship.

Leeds recruited well, targeting players who could match the intensity of the Premier League.

Judging from how Coventry played against Arsenal, they have a long way to go.

There was nothing “bizarre” in the comment. He was simply pointing out that defeat for Leeds at Arsenal didn’t ruin their season, that they still went on to do well and finish comfortably in the division.

Lampard is already hated by all Leeds fans, so running his mouth again about Leeds, good or bad, doesn’t make any difference to that. He will always be hated by Leeds fans and I’m sure he will get the usual “warm” welcome at ER.

Silly comment.
He did not run off at the mouth.
He applauded Leeds for a good season after a similar result to arsenal.

I don’t think it was bizarre, he was just saying that a first day defeat at Arsenal doesn’t define the season and mention that Leeds lost and they had a decent season, if anything he was plauding Leeds
