Last summer, the 49ers sprang a surprise on Leeds United fans as Lukas Nmecha was the first signing. The forward joined as a free agent, coming from Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Some fans were very critical when the deal was announced, considering his injury history.

His goal record also did not provide any optimism from the fanbase. Nmecha turned out to be a solid addition for the team this past season; he finished as the second top scorer in all competitions behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The German was among a host of signings that proved the fans wrong as the season went on.

There were also question marks about James Justin, who was a solid rotation option as the campaign progressed. Justin barely played in the first few months of the season as he was on the bench.

Leeds United star’s brother draws interest from Manchester United

This transfer window could see Felix Nmecha, Lukas Nmecha’s younger brother, on the move.

The midfielder played with Germany at the World Cup and has impressed. Per The Athletic, Manchester United are one of the teams that have taken notice, and are interested in signing him.

He had one goal and one assist in four games at the tournament. Germany crashed out in the round of 32.

Nmecha is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League for this upcoming season. He was previously with Manchester City as a youth player back in 2019.

The 25-year old has spent three years with Borussia Dortmund. The report says the German club value him around £70 million as elite clubs around Europe assess a potential deal.

How the Whites’ midfield revamp is going

Leeds United are also doing their midfield revamp this summer.

The Whites have already agreed a deal to bring in Harry Wilson. The Welsh international will join from Fulham as a free agent when his current deal at Craven Cottage expires.

Wilson will offer Daniel Farke some flexibility, as he can play in midfield and out wide.

When it comes to more orthodox midfielders, Leeds are also looking at two players – Julian Brandt and Shea Charles.

Brandt is a more of an attacking midfielder who can play behind the striker, while Charles is a more defensive minded option. The team needs an injection of quality as they prepare for their second season in the top flight.
