Leeds United appointed Jesse Marsch as head coach of the club in February 2022.
The Whites feared they may be heading to relegation that year after a string of bad results under the Argentine coach. Marsch steered the club to safety in the final weeks with crucial results.
After retaining their Premier League status, Leeds backed Marsch in the transfer market and signed a host of players from his former club Red Bull Salzburg.
Tyler Adams, Max Wöber, Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson arrived in summer 2023 for about €70million combined. Marsch did not even end the season, after a poor start and worse results to match. Leeds United sacked the American in February 2023 after a run of six points in eight games.
The signings that summer were wildly contrasting on the pitch. Some hit the ground running, it took others time to adjust, and some were just very bad.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s patience with Leeds loanee grows thin after latest injury
Rasmus Kristensen was signed for Leeds United in summer 2023. The Denmark international ended up playing 26 games in the league but never impressed.
Since he was not a part of Daniel Farke’s plans this summer, Kristensen was sent on loan to Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. According to Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche, the club had been scouting the defender since 2021:
“We were interested in Rasmus as far back as three years ago and are delighted that it’s now worked out. We had very good talks and sensed that he absolutely wanted to come to us. Rasmus is a robust, tough-tackling player, who’s an out-and-out right-back but can also play at centre-back.”
Kristensen picked up an injury recently, and was replaced by Frankfurt youngster Nnamdi Collins who was so good in the match that media around the club have said he is a better alternative to the Leeds loanee.
The club needs to move past Kristensen
Kristensen has been under contract at Leeds for two years and has only played over 20 matches.
His commitment to the club is also questionable, instead of playing in the Championship, the Danish player sought a loan move to Roma in the Serie A last year. He only started 19 games in the league under Jose Mourinho and talks of a permanent move never started.
Leeds United should be willing to sell him for around the €10million fee they paid to sign him two seasons ago.
