Leeds United have already secured their Premier League place for next season with games remaining, and focus is gradually starting to shift towards the summer transfer window.

With survival now confirmed, the club are moving forward with their planning behind the scenes and continuing to look at several possible transfer targets before the campaign finishes.

Unlike last summer, Leeds are not expected to make major changes across the squad, but they still want to strengthen several key areas ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Leeds want to bring in midfield reinforcements in the summer window, and the club are now eyeing a quick deal to sign Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann in the coming weeks.

The Whites want to sign Tanner Tessmann before the World Cup

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has had a solid season at Lyon, where he has made 41 appearances in all competitions, including the Europa League.

His performances in France have turned heads in England, and according to journalist Alan Nixon, Leeds are amongst the clubs interested in signing him.

Tanner Tessmann Lyon Performance & Defensive Statistics (2025/26 Season)

The United States midfielder is expected to move on from Lyon in the upcoming window, and Leeds hope that the 49ers will give them an edge in the race for Tanner Tessmann.

Brentford are also interested in the defensive midfielder, but Leeds have moved early to try and secure a deal to take him to Elland Road.

It has been claimed that Leeds would like to get a deal over the line for Tessmann’s transfer before he goes to the World Cup this summer.

Leeds are aware that a strong World Cup could send his price soaring, which would make a deal far more difficult to complete later in the transfer window.

Leeds have an alternative target

Leeds have been keeping tabs on Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney for months, and he is one more player they are considering signing.

However, it has been claimed that Hackney is the alternative to Tanner, and Leeds would only try to sign him if they fail to sign the Lyon star.

The Boro midfielder is expected to leave the Riverside Stadium this summer following his side’s failed promotion campaign, and he is expected to be in the Premier League next season.

However, Middlesbrough still want a decent fee from his sale and are keen to get in excess of £20m from his departure in the upcoming window.
