Leeds United are facing a major goalkeeping crisis as they seek to find a way to hold on to Karl Darlow this summer amid interest from Manchester United.

The Whites have offered him a new contract to stay at Elland Road. However, there is no agreement in sight, and Manchester United are pushing to sign him.

Darow replaced Lucas Perri as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper midway through the season and provided much-needed stability and experience behind the defence.

However, Manchester United’s interest in the 35-year-old goalkeeper has complicated matters, and Leeds are on the verge of losing him in the coming weeks.

The Athletic drops a major Karl Darlow update

Darlow has an offer on the table from Leeds to stay at Elland Road. However, the lack of an agreement means his head has turned due to interest from Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, Darlow is set to be available as a free agent at the end of the month, as things stand.

The reputed source has indicated that the Welshman is now unlikely to sign a new contract and stay on at Leeds beyond the end of this month.

Manchester United are interested in signing him and have been in talks with his representatives over doing a deal to sign him on a free transfer this summer.

The Premier League giants want a reliable and experienced back-up goalkeeper to Senne Lammens this summer as part of their transfer plans.

Darlow also fulfils the homegrown quota in the squad, which is one more season the Red Devils want him at Old Trafford.

It seems the Welshman is now prepared to become the first player since Alan Smith, more than 20 years back, to leave Leeds to join Manchester United.

His departure will be a problem

Illan Meslier has left the club, and Lucas Perri did little last season to suggest that he could be a number 1 goalkeeper at a Premier League club.

Leeds were banking on holding on to Darlow. However, with Manchester United interested, the Welshman seems to be Old Trafford-bound this summer.

The Whites were considering not signing a goalkeeper earlier this summer. However, now they may need to sign two to fill up the squad.

Leeds rejected an offer to sell Perri in the winter window. However, he is not trusted, and Farke wants to improve his goalkeeping department this summer.
