Leeds United line up free-transfer swoop for Pascal Struijk replacement

The first piece of business Leeds United did this summer was to sign Ethan Ampadu to a new contract. The move was a huge one as it showed a sign of intent from the ownership.

Per The Athletic, no relegation release clause was included in the deal.

This means that both the 49ers and Ampadu have confidence that the team will continue to be a constant presence in the top flight. Clubs were monitoring the Leeds captains situation before he put pen to paper.

Karl Darlow has also been a big talking point at Elland Road. Leeds announced that they had offered him a new contract, but recent reports are not promising.

Manchester United are keen on bringing in the Wales international.

They could offer him a better contract than the Whites, with the possibility of European football. Nothing has been agreed so far as the summer continues.

Leeds United eye free agent this summer

As for Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk, things have gone very quiet on that end – he enters the final 12 months of his current deal in a couple of weeks.

There has been no word on if the Whites have a deal in place for him like they did with Ampadu.

Sports Journalist Rudy Galletti is reporting that Leeds are eyeing a deal for Diog Leite.

The defender was with Union Berlin last season, but is a free agent this summer. It is believed that the Brazilian is weighing options from multiple teams across Europe.

Besiktas, and a Saudi side are also said to be in the race for the 27-year old.

Pascal Struijk situation is baffling

Leite is available on a free transfer this summer, and there is a slim chance he decides to stay in Germany.

This would give Leeds United a massive market opportunity to sign a defender who is comfortable at playing at the highest level. Daniel Farke’s side also need depth in the position ahead of next season.

The whole Pascal Struijk situation has been really confusing so far – no news or reports have emerged about his future.

Ethan Ampadu got his new contract pretty quickly, and talks around him were brief before he signed a new deal. And Karl Darlow has been given a new contract offer.

Struijk could sign a new deal as the year goes on, but if he does not, the club could lose him for free next year.
