When teams get relegated, their players tend to leave – this happened with Leeds United back in 2023. That summer saw a mass exodus of players after the club failed to regain their spot in the top flight.

It had been coming since 2020, when Marcelo Bielsa kept the team up, there was barely any improvements in the transfer window after.

After Bielsa was sacked, Jesse Marsch came in and helped the club avoid relegation. He was backed in the following summer with a huge spending spree, but was also sacked in the 2022/23 season.

Leeds ended up changing coaches three times in that campaign when the team went back down to the Championship.

A host of players jumped ship that summer and decided to leave Elland Road.

Manchester United eye shock move for former Leeds star

Before last season ended, Leeds United were linked with moves for Wolves players.

The midlands club knew their fate before they were eventually relegated. Wolves’ plan was to keep some stars, while selling some assets as their team prepared for life in the Championship.

Leeds also weighed up a move for Crysencio Summerville, but that dream could be scuppered.

The Athletic are reporting that Manchester United have joined the race to sign the West Ham star this summer. The Hammers will reportedly demand for around £50 million for the winger.

Enquiries have been made for the 24-year old, who scored his first World Cup goal this week.

Michael Carrick’s side are exploring options in wide areas heading into next season. A potential move for Summerville could depend on Marcus Rashford’s future, as the England star could leave in the coming months.

Return for Leeds favourite unlikely at this point

Leeds were briefly linked with Summerville near the end of this past season, but with this latest update it seems unlikely.

The price tag will be well out of the 49ers range, especially with the team very cautious about the upcoming Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules. Manchester United being in the race also complicates things.

It will be difficult to compete with a side that have more to spend, and can offer Summerville European football.

The Whites need to look at other targets, as they seriously need to revamp their attack. Next season will be a difficult one if the club decide to persist with Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto as their only wide options behind Noah Okafor.
