Leeds United urged to sell their ‘best player’ to take the next step

It is believed that a promoted Premier League club needs around three seasons in the league to establish themselves – something Leeds United are working towards.

Going into their second season in the top flight, there are already many questions facing the team and the players.

Last year saw massive investment in the summer transfer market, which brought 10 new players into the first team. Most of these signings made a huge impact and helped the club survive relegation.

Daniel Farke also played a big part in this – he oversaw the turnaround in form late last year.

Leeds were tipped to go down before a ball was even kicked, but they surprised everyone in the end.

This summer will be a huge point for the club going forward as they prepare for their second season in the top flight.

Leeds United urged to consider sale of their ‘best player’

Leeds United will have some tough decisions to make before the start of the league later this year. The most important thing will be how they manage to set up their squad.

Having just come out of the Championship, there is still some parts of the team that need improving.

Mick Brown of Football Insider believes that the Whites could take the next step by replacing one of last season’s best players. He thinks the links to Ousmane Diomande could mean the end for Joe Rodon.

“Diomande is exactly the type of player Leeds have to be looking at, and he is at the top of their list” Brown said.

“When you look at their squad, they’re missing a real outstanding player who you think is going to take them to the next level.

“It’s fair to say their best player over the last couple of years has been Joe Rodon, since he joined the club he has been excellent and been a big part of their success.

“But lets say he went somewhere else, would he improve a Premier League team and help them make that next step to qualify for Europe?

Mick Brown’s point makes sense

Brown makes a great point when talking about what level of player a club needs when they are climbing up the ladder. Just like when some players in the promotion campaign never saw Leeds’ Premier League season.

At every point in time, top teams seek to build a great core of players to move forward.

That process sometimes involves replacing current options that have served the club well. Looking at this team, Rodon is not the clear cut option to be replaced going forward.

There are a number of areas in the squad that need improving going into next season.
