Leeds United will be represented by four players at this year’s FIFA World Cup. The Whites had a great campaign this year and their players were duly rewarded.

However, the club could have had more players at this summer’s tournament. Wales failed to win their play-off tie against Bosnia, which meant the Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Dan James all missed out.

The team had two players on the verge of making the final lists for their country but missed out.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin returned to the England fold after an impressive season with Leeds, but could not make the England squad.

And unfortunately for Anton Stach, an injury late in the season sealed off his chances of going to the USA with Germany.

5 World Cup stars who could transform Leeds United

The World Cup will provide a huge platform for Leeds United players, as the world will be watching.

Clubs who have planned their summer recruitment will also be keeping a keen eye on the competition. In the modern era, players are not signed solely for how they play for their national teams.

A lot of scouting would have been done before then. Leeds could benefit from some players at the 2026 World Cup going into next season.

Ladislav Krejci

The Czech defender was a standout for Wolves this past season – his ball playing ability was eye-catching.

Being able to play in a back three would also make him a great fit for Daniel Farke’s current system. Per reports, talks were held with his camp near the end of the season, and they were said to be ‘positive’.

Daizen Maeda

Another long-term Leeds United target; the Japanese forward finished this past season with 14 goals.

His current contract with Celtic runs out next year, and could present the 49ers with a great opportunity

Han-Beom Lee

The defender was a standout in South Korea’s opening win over Czech Republic. It is believed that clubs around Europe have been keeping an eye on the 23-year old for the past few years.

Lee can also play fullback which would be an added bonus for Leeds.

Zion Suzuki

Another Japanese international at this year’s World Cup.

He was solid in his team’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands this week. Suzuki has been linked with multiple clubs including Manchester United in recent years.

With Leeds in need of a starting goalkeeper, the Parma man will definitely be of interest

Ruben Vargas

Switzerland’s left winger was the bright spot in their draw against Qatar.

His lightning speed and quick dribbling tormented defenders on the day. Vargas joined Sevilla in 2025 for just under £2 million.

He could be a useful addition considering that the Spanish side would not be after much profit considering how much they paid for him.
