Leeds United make surprise loan move

Leeds United have made one significant decision on a loan deal, while they wait to conclude on other transfers.

The club was busy in the transfer window during the summer. A whole host of players came in and out of the club, after Leeds failed to win Premier League promotion. The top clubs in the league swooped, and signed key players Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter for a combined fee over €100million.

Daniel Farke was also active in the transfer market, he convinced the club to bring in Ao Tanaka. The Japanese international has been a sensation this season and has won over the fans at Elland Road.

Leeds also used the loan market well, signing Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell from the Premier League. The club also granted loan deals to some players who were not in Daniel Farke’s plans.

Sam Greenwood, Rasmus Kristensen, Darko Gyabi, Sonny Perkins and Luca Thomas are all currently on loan away from the club. Rasmus Kristensen joined Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and could move on a permanent deal soon. Sam Greenwood could also find himself away from Elland Road in the summer, after he failed to break into the first team.

Sonny Perkins has also been linked with a move away from Leeds United after his loan at Leyton Orient. Darko Gyabi and Luca Thomas seem to be the only players out on loan who the club could have plans for in the future. Gyabi has been impressive on loan at Plymouth this season, and could return to the club after his performances earned an England U21 callup.

Luca Thomas’ loan deal has been extended until January. The young striker joined York City in October on a short term loan, but he will now remain with the club till the end of the season. Thomas has already scored for the club, and has played well with York City second in the National League this season.

Loan deal ideal choice for Thomas

Luca Thomas was unplayable in the Premier League 2 with Leeds’ U21 side, averaging a goal per game this season. The next step in his career is competitive football; a move to York City was the best for all parties. His development is one that Daniel Farke would be keeping a very close eye on.
