Leeds United did some major restructuring of the first team ahead of their return to the Premier League this season. The club managed to bring in 10 new players in the transfer window.

But that was not all; Daniel Farke gave the green light as many first team players left Elland Road. The Leeds boss had an idea of who was in his plans heading into the season, and many players were not included.

The likes of Max Wober, Isaac Schmidt, Joe Gelhardt, Mateo Joseph and Largie Ramazani all departed on temporary deals last summer. Heading into this summer, decisions will have to be made on the futures of these players.

One player whose future looks set is Joe Gelhardt. The forward has been sensational on loan for Hull City this season, with 15 goals and five assists in all competitons.

His loan deal ends next month, but Hull Sporting Director Jared Dublin has revealed that all parties are interested in a potential move this summer. Nothing concrete has been agreed to yet.

“There’s no option on Joffy (Gelhardt)’s loan as part of the EFL restrictions but the owner, myself and the gaffer have been very vocal and there’s a will at both ends to continue,” Dublin told the Yorkshire Post.

“Now we know where Leeds are so we have to see where we are but Joff has been fantastic since day one and we’d love to keep him, irrespective of what division we’re in. I’ve been in touch with Reegs and his representatives. Everyone knows we’ve got a job to do at Wembley and we’ll pick up the conversation after that.”

Hull City have reached the Championship play-off final, and could seal promotion by beating Southampton in eight days time.

Best move for both parties

Joe Gelhardt came to Elland Road with a big reputation as a youngster. He started well and got into the first team, but in the latter seasons, things did not really go well for him. Not being selected in the first team only made things worse for his development.

He took the chance to leave on loan a few times, with last season’s spell at Hull City being key to his career. He then opted to join the Tigers again this campaign, and has proven his worth.

Gelhardt is a very good player, who could not get game time under Farke, but is now blossoming elsewhere. This is a big advantage for Leeds United as they can cash in on him and make very good profit on their initial outlay.
