Leeds United recorded a huge win away to Old Trafford on Monday night. Daniel Farke’s men dominated Manchester United in the first half and that was key to the win.

The Whites started the game flying, and scored just five minutes into the game. Noah Okafor ended up scoring a brace in the first 30 minutes with Leeds closing down spaces and hitting them on the counter. The away side ended up comfortably winning the game late on, but United boss Michael Carrick blamed the refereeing. Lisandro Martinez was sent off in the second half after a VAR review.

“It was a shocking, shocking decision to send Licha off, two games in a row where we’ve had decisions like that go against us, but that was one of the worst I’ve seen.

“You can elbow Yoro in the head, and you can have your arm in Licha’s face, and because he’s off balance, he touches the back of his hair, which pulls the bobble out.

“It’s not aggressive, he touches it and gets sent off, it’s shocking.”

Michael Carrick criticizes FA ruling after Leeds game

Manchester United did not agree with the red card, and appealed the three game suspension. It was confirmed on Friday that the appeal failed, and Martinez would see out the three-game ban. The Red Devils have been furious this week as Harry Maguire was handed a one-match ban following a red card against Bournemouth. Michael Carrick addressed the failed appeal on Friday: ”We’re obviously disappointed. We didn’t agree with it; it was pretty obvious how I felt after the game, and I still feel that way. Listen, I don’t want to go into it, we’ve been hit with some decisions and at the end of the day we’ve got to accept them and move on whether we like them or not.”

Manchester United fans will be furious

On Monday night, fans at Old Trafford blamed the loss on the refereeing, and that was the conversation after the game. Now that the appeal has been overturned, now fans will focus on the football that was played. Leeds United dominated Michael Carrick’s side for large parts of the game and could have scored more. That is what fans should direct their anger towards, and not the refereeing decisions.

Leeds fans also have to move their focus to the Wolves game this weekend. Celebrating a win over rivals is great, but the Whites must now focus on Premier League survival. If things go their way, they could open the six point gap between themselves and the relegation zone. Hopefully Leeds can record a big victory at Elland Road this weekend.
