The talk surrounding the Leeds United win over Manchester United on Monday night was focused on other matters aside the result. The Whites went to Old Trafford and got three crucial points.
Daniel Farke’s side played some of their best football this season, in a dominant first half performance. They could have scored three or more goals, but their finishing let them down. Manchester United were punished twice in the opening half hour of the game as Noah Okafor scored a brace. The two goals were enough to see them through in the second half, even with Michael Carrick’s side pulling one back.
FA make their decision on Lisandro Martinez red card vs Leeds
One of the biggest talking points came in the second half when Lisandro Martinez was booked for fouling Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the break. The referee was asked to go an take a look on the monitor by VAR, and the card was changed. Martinez was sent off, and Manchester United finished the game with 10 men.
After the game, Michael Carrick called the refereeing ”poor” and criticized how his side lost the game. It was confirmed that the Red Devils would appeal the red card. A report from The Athletic earlier this week hinted that the decision would stand and the suspension would be held. On Friday, Samuel Luckhurst confirmed that the appeal to the FA had failed.
Michael Carrick gave a response to the failed appeal: ‘We’ve been hit with some decisions and just have to accept it. I was disappointed and still am.’

Daniel Farke’s men have their own challenge this weekend
Leeds United have their own troubles to worry about; they face Wolverhampton Wanderers at home this weekend. And despite their great form at Elland Road this season, their recent run of games have been poor. The Whites have lost two of their last three and will be hoping to get back to winning ways. The win at Old Trafford sees them six points clear of the bottom three.
Rob Edwards’ side are a dangerous prospect; they have beaten Aston Villa and Liverpool in recent games. But their 4-0 defeat to West Ham last week will give Leeds fans some confidence ahead of Saturday. Daniel Farke has already warned his side about complacency, and hopefully his men show up at Elland Road and pick up another win in their battle for survival.
