Harry Wilson has agreed personal terms with Leeds United and is set to join the club on a free transfer once his contract with Fulham expires at the end of the month.
The Whites are now preparing to arrange his medical as they look to complete one of their priority deals of the summer. Wilson has been high on Leeds’ wishlist for some time, and they are now closing in on his signature.
A lucrative long-term contract played a major role in convincing the Welsh international, while the strong Welsh presence already at Elland Road also helped sell the move.
The deal is not over the line just yet, though. Wilson has yet to formally sign his contract, and Aston Villa remain in the picture as they continue trying to persuade him to choose Villa Park over Elland Road.
However, Leeds have now set a timeline to complete the deal and sign Wilson.
Leeds United want the Harry Wilson deal over the line by the weekend
Aston Villa are still trying to convince Wilson and carry out a late transfer hijack despite Leeds finalising an agreement with the player and his representatives.
The Villans believe Champions League football could still turn his head. However, Leeds are now accelerating towards finalising his arrival.
According to TeamTalk, Leeds hope to finalise the signing of the Welsh winger before the weekend.
Wilson has yet to undergo a medical, but the club expect him to travel to Yorkshire soon to undergo the formal steps of completing the transfer.
The Whites do not want to leave any room for any late hijack attempts and are pressing forward to complete the deal in the next couple of days.
Wilson has been a target since last summer, and he has agreed to sign a three-year deal on comparable wages to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Leeds are in no mood to allow another club to steal him away from them at this late stage.
What’s next for Leeds United?
Leeds are working on multiple deals as they seek to bring in a few new faces before Daniel Farke and the squad reassemble for pre-season next month.
Leeds remain in talks with Julian Brandt and continue to try to convince him to move to Elland Road despite interest from Champions League clubs.
Daniel Farke would love to sign a player of his calibre and experience despite the impending arrival of Wilson on a free transfer.
Leeds are also in talks with Southampton for Shea Charles as they look to work out a deal for the Northern Ireland midfielder.
