After finishing 14th in their first season back in the Premier League, Leeds United have turned their attention to the summer transfer window and the challenge of building on that progress.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has indicated that the club are unlikely to be as active in the market as they were last year, believing the current squad already provides a solid foundation to work from.

However, Daniel Farke has made it clear that he wants Leeds to keep moving forward. The manager has stressed the need for ambition in the transfer market and suggested that simply standing still would not align with his vision for the club’s future.

Leeds also need player sales to facilitate their incoming business, and the club are now scheduled to hold talks for the departure of a striker in the coming weeks.

Joe Gelhardt set for talks with Leeds United

Leeds are ready to sell Joe Gelhardt, who has a year left on his contract at Elland Road, and has no future under Daniel Farke.

The striker had a brilliant loan stint at Hull City, where he played a big role in getting them promoted to the Premier League via the playoffs.

Hull are ready to sign him on a permanent deal, but Leeds have decided to put a hold on any deal to sell him to the Tigers in the upcoming transfer window.

Leeds want to assess the market and see who is willing to offer what amount of money for Gelhardt after his success at the MKM Stadium last season.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Leeds are set to hold talks with Gelhardt about his future at the club in the coming months.

Leeds are aware that he has no future at Elland Road. However, they want to get the best deal possible for him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Hull are still interested, but there is also talk of Rangers wanting to sign the forward ahead of next season.

Leeds need to find a resolution soon

Joe Gelhardt has enjoyed arguably the most productive spell of his career during his time at Hull City over the last 18 months, and he has been open about his desire to make the move permanent.

The striker no longer appears to have a future at Leeds United under Daniel Farke, having found first-team opportunities hard to come by before being sent out on loan.

Joe Gelhardt Hull City 2025/26 Player Statistics
⚽ Competition 👕 Apps 🎯 Goals 🅰️ Assists ⏱️ Mins
EFL Championship 39 14 4 2,826′
Championship Play-offs 3 1 0 113′
FA Cup 1 0 0 26′
EFL Cup 1 0 1 76′

Given his performances, his importance to Hull and the extra financial resources the Tigers will have following promotion, Leeds are entitled to seek a healthy transfer fee if they decide to sell.

However, there is also value in reaching an agreement sooner rather than later. A swift resolution would give all parties certainty and allow Gelhardt to focus entirely on preparing for the demands of Premier League football next season.
