Leeds United confirmed the departure of Pascal Struijk to Brighton on Tuesday, but are still unsure about the future of one major player.
Struijk left Leeds to join Brighton in a deal worth up to ÂŁ18m. The Whites decided to sell him once it became clear the defender was not signing a new contract.
Leeds are expected to announce the arrival of Harry Wilson on a free transfer soon, and have been working hard behind the scenes to set up a deal for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
However, a move to sign a goalkeeper will have to wait until Karl Darlow’s future is sorted out, and he has yet to sign a new deal, despite his contract expiring on Tuesday.
Leeds United are yet to get any clarity from Karl Darlow
As things stand, Darlow is a free agent after his contract with Leeds expired on Tuesday. However, the Whites have been confident of holding on to him.
Manchester United are interested in signing him on a free transfer, but as The Leeds Press exclusively revealed, Darlow is close to signing a new two-year contract with the Whites.
However, he has yet to sign on the dotted line, and according to Sky Sports reporter Zinny Boswell, Leeds are still waiting for a final decision from the Welshman.
Darlow has not signed a new deal yet, and Leeds are still unaware whether he is prepared to stay despite an agreement being close between the club and his representatives.
The Whites admire Suzuki, but any deal to sign a goalkeeper will have to wait until they get any certainty around Darlow’s future at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke wants to keep him, and Darlow has been a major player for Leeds. However, there is still no certainty that he will sign a new deal this summer.
Leeds need a decision soon
Karl Darlow replaced Lucas Perri in the team midway through last season and was one of the most consistent performers for the Whites in the latter half of the campaign.
Leeds want to keep him as he provided confidence and assurance between the sticks and has been the better goalkeeper compared to Perri.
However, they cannot afford to wait for him for too long as they have goalkeeping targets such as Suzuki lined up and are keen to get on with their business.
Leeds can’t allow Darlow to take all the time to decide and then lose out on a top goalkeeper like the Parma shot-stopper because they were unsure about the Welshman’s future.
