Last summer, Leeds United went against what newly-promoted clubs usually do before they start the Premier League. Most clubs usually shop in the Championship or buy players from the lower clubs in the league.

This method has had some mixed results over the last few seasons.

It is basically a coin toss sometimes, as the best Championship players can struggle to make an impact in the top flight. Overpaying for players from lower Premier League sides can also backfire.

So the Whites chose to target quality players from around Europe’s top leagues.

And this worked out very well; Leeds spent over £100 million on 10 new first team players and got a lot of use out of them.

Player set to push for Leeds United move as transfer news emerges

Leeds United got impactful starters like Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Anton Stach and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. And also very valuable squad players in James Justin and Sean Longstaff.

The club’s recruitment will be tasked with having an even better summer window ahead of next season.

Leeds will have to find ways of improving on the current team as they aim to have a better season than the last campaign.

Shea Charles has been a name that has been in the headline for the last few weeks. The Athletic recently reported that the Whites had a £20 million bid turned down for the Southampton star.

Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider has revealed that Leeds will continue their pursuit of Charles this summer.

He also adds that the 22-year old is keen on a move to Elland Road, and is ready to leave the Championship side before next season begins.

Leeds would be a huge step up from Southampton

In this scenario, Shea Charles holds all the cards. His contract with Southampton expires next year and he wants to leave.

Per the report, the Championship club are still in talks with him over a new deal, but things do not look promising after Leeds United sent their opening bid for the midfielder.

The Saints can decide to lose him for free next year, or cash in on him soon.

Making the return to Premier League football is also a driving force after Southampton were knocked out of the playoffs this summer.

Leeds would be getting a great player, with incredible upside who can change Daniel Farke’s midfield.
