Leeds United could have only one goalkeeper under contract by the end of the month. The goalkeeping situation at Elland Road has been a very complex situation since last year.

Daniel Farke decided to bench Illan Meslier in the final weeks of the promotion campaign.

So last summer, many thought the club was going to sign a new first-choice keeper. Leeds ended up signing Lucas Perri for a huge fee.

The Brazilian arrived with a lot of expectations on his shoulders, and at the start of the season, he was doing okay. But after coming back from an injury in the middle of the season, things were not the same.

Farke benched Perri for Darlow, who was in goal for the end of the season.

And now, this summer will see a lot of movement in the goalkeeping department at Elland Road.

Leeds United could make a shock £40m swoop for goalkeeping duo

Leeds United trio Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Illan Meslier are all out of contract in the coming days.

Meslier will leave this summer on a free transfer, as confirmed by the club. Leeds also revealed that new contracts had been offered to both Darlow and Cairns ahead of next season.

As per The Leeds Press insider, Elland Back, the club could consider signing two goalkeepers this summer.

The source reveals that Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and Newcastle United stopper Nick Pope are high on the list of targets. Karl Darlow is said to be heading to Manchester United.

Suzuki is said to be available for around £35 million, while Pope could be signed for just £5 million.

Both deals are very feasible this summer

Now, the bad news for Leeds United is that they could lose Karl Darlow this summer.

But Nick Pope is a very realistic target; Newcastle have already signed a new goalkeeper ahead of next season which could spell the end for the veteran. And for around £5 million, it would be a bargain.

Zion Suzuki is a name that has recently popped up on the radar. The Japanese international has put in some impressive performances at the World Cup.

He is said to be attracting interest from across Europe, which could be the reason for his £35 million price tag.

This could be out of Leeds’ reach, considering they signed Lucas Perri for just around half of that last year.

Nonetheless, the 49ers are taking the current situation at Elland Road very seriously ahead of next season.
