Leeds United will be hoping to turn things around this weekend when they host Manchester United. But the Premier League’s latest announcement complicates things going forward.

Over the past few days, the fixture has gained a lot of importance.

The rivalry between these teams have been long-standing, but the start to this Premier League season has added more stakes. Manchester United desperately need a win this weekend.

Michael Carrick’s side have just six points this season and have only won one game.

Leeds saw their unbeaten run to the year come to an end with a defeat to Arsenal. They had a hard fought game at the Emirates stadium which ended in a defeat as the home side mounted a comeback.

Leeds United will host Manchester United at Elland Road this weekend.

The last time the two sides met, the Whites made history by recording a big win at Old Trafford. That helped them close their final run of games, avoiding relegation in the process.

Both sides faced off in January, which ended in a draw at Elland Road.

The Premier League have announced that Darren England will be the referee for Sunday’s kick off. Leeds fans will not have fond memories of the official who has been involved in a lot of controversy.

Last season, Darren England was criticized for not sending off Chelsea’s Estevao for kicking Gabriel Gudmundsson from behind.

England was criticized by former Whites player Danny Mills, who called him ”pathetic” and ”embarrassing”. The referee also awarded a controversial penalty against Liam Cooper in 2021.

Scott Ledger and Matthew Wilkes will be the assistant referees and Andrew Kitchen will be the fourth official.

Peter Bankes and Josh Smith will be on VAR for that game.

Bad refereeing is the last thing both sides need on Sunday

Manchester United and Leeds United is a huge rivalry that has always been intense. The Whites carry the advantage after beating Michael Carrick’s side at Old Trafford earlier this year.

Going into the game, both sides are desperate for a result.

Darren England will definitely face a lot of heat from the Leeds fanbase due to his recent involvement in controversies. Hopefully this weekend’s game is devoid of refereeing errors.

Another game that goes by without the red devils getting a result puts pressure on Carrick. Leeds also losing two games in a row will disrupt their promising start to this campaign.

Elland Road will play a huge part for Daniel Farke’s men on Sunday.
