Leeds United look almost certain to be safe now after reaching 43 points with their win over Burnley on Friday night, leaving them well placed to remain in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke has been quick to play down any celebrations until survival is officially confirmed, but Leeds could wrap it up even before their trip to Tottenham next Monday.
That game in north London could still be hugely significant. A Spurs victory might be enough to secure their own safety, but if Leeds manage to get a result, Tottenham could be dragged right back into trouble.
Robert De Zerbi has admitted he expects a hard game against Leeds United, and Jermaine Beckford is keen to see the Whites inflict more pain on Spurs on Monday night.
“We can ruin their season” – the former Leeds striker insists ahead of the trip to Tottenham
Tottenham’s seven points from their last three games have helped them climb out of the relegation zone. However, they are still far from feeling safe.
Jermaine Beckford is keen to see Leeds go to Spurs and get a win or at least a draw to make themselves even more comfortable in the Premier League table.
He wants Leeds to ruin Spurs’ season and keep them in the relegation mix until the end of the season. The former striker doesn’t expect Tottenham to pick up too many more points if they do not beat Leeds.
Beckford said on LUTV: “Yes, look, first and foremost, we’ve got to deal with Spurs.
“They’re up first.
“Get a point or three points against Spurs.
“It ruins their season because I can’t see them picking up too many points, and then we’ve got West Ham at the end of the season, which will be intriguing away at their place.
“But the exciting part is, if we are able to pick up a point, we’re guaranteed.
“We are safe, we’re staying in the Premier League, but we are guaranteed to be in the Premier League.”
Beating Spurs would be sweet revenge for the Whites
Leeds United could already be safe by the time they head to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, but Daniel Farke’s side are still likely to have revenge on their minds.
Leeds were beaten by Spurs at Elland Road earlier this season in a game they arguably should have won, so there’s unfinished business heading into the return fixture.
West Ham United will also be hoping Leeds can do them a favour by taking something from north London to keep their survival hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi might be counting on Leeds easing off slightly if their Premier League status is already secured by kick-off.
