Manager gives honest verdict on Leeds United hero amid transfer links

Leeds United hero

Former Leeds United star Patrick Bamford was called into question when the Englishman was recently seen training with Coventry City.

The English international terminated his terms with the Whites in the summer. Daniel Farke made it clear that there wasn’t much left for the striker at Elland Road.

Major League Soccer came calling, but a move never materialised to the United States. Bamford had given a green light for the new experience, but uncontrollable factors didn’t favour the former Leeds United star.

Celtic were also on the hook, with Brendan Rodgers keen on bringing in the striker. However, the Scottish Premiership outfit decided to go with Kelechi Iheanacho instead.

La Liga club Getafe were also among the suitors for the English international, but interest has since died out, with Bamford remaining clubless at the moment.

Bamford was found training with Championship side Coventry City, and the media made their own conclusions regarding the situation.

However, following the Sky Blues’ recent win over Watford, manager Frank Lampard has made it clear that the English striker is only there to train.

Doing him a favour. I know Patrick well; he hasn’t got a club. He’s training with us. I’m very happy, he’s a good lad, Patrick. He’s very easy. I know the conclusions everyone’s going to get to, but he’s just training.”

After having bad stints at multiple clubs, Lampard has finally found a home in the English second division. The Englishman has kept Coventry unbeaten in the Championship in 12 games.

Eight wins and four draws is the record with 28 points to their name. The Sky Blues have won all of their last five games and stand three points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough.

Patrick Bamford’s football career

A product of the Nottingham Forest academy, Bamford barely made any appearances for the Reds. After moving to Chelsea in 2012, the same record followed with multiple loan spells across five seasons.

The player finally settled at Middlesbrough for a season, where he scored 33 goals for Boro in 97 appearances. A move to Leeds United followed, where he spent seven seasons before Farke decided to drop him.

In 205 appearances, the Englishman scored 60 goals and assisted 25 times for the Whites. The striker has also averaged 0.43 goals per 90 for the Yorkshire-based outfit.

He remained pretty well within expectations as his per 90 xG stands at 0.62. Bamford outperformed with assists, though, as per 90 stats say 0.12 for assists and 0.09 for xAG.
