The Elland Road expansion project has commenced as Leeds United look into the future. The 49ers have a grand plan of making the club reach a valuation around £1 billion.

When completed, the stadium will increase their capacity to over 50,000. This will guarantee more matchday revenue going into the near future.

The expansion will also see Elland Road become a UEFA Category 4 stadium.

Work has already begun with many changes expected soon; the expansion will mainly take place in the offseason and during international breaks. The current timeline will see the project finished around 2030.

Journalist confirms Leeds United project will not affect player transfers

It is believed that the project will cost Leeds United around £150 million.

The 49ers, and other investors will put some serious investment into the project to complete it. Some around the club have worried that building costs will affect the team’s ability to sign players.

And with the new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules, the club need to navigate future transfers carefully.

Adam Pope explained on the Don’t Go To Bed Yet podcast that the Elland Road expansion will not affect the team.

”No, building costs are excluded from Squad Cost Ratio. In a couple of years, the club will be much better off from a revenue perspective with the expanded stadium. In the short term, PSR would have allowed slightly more wriggle room.”

Pope also shed light on why the rules will restrict the club in the short term, but they will be able to operate normally.

”That is why the club voted against SCR, because in the short term it was restrictive, but Marathe says it is not to an extent which will prevent the club from doing what it intends.”

This summer will really test Leeds’ spending power

Club chairman Paraag Marathe has ensured fans that the 49ers will do everything possible to invest in the team on the pitch.

But he also warned that the SCR rules could affect what happens in the summer. His words point to the fact that the team will have to make some decisions on departures first.

Reports suggest that a deal will be reached with Daniel Farke soon, so the club will look to back him in the transfer market.

Leeds will have to find the balance between improving the team and avoiding financial sanctions due to the new SCR rules next season.

£150m, be fair very lucky last window, due to a couple of lucky freebies, and Stach and Gudmonson quality signings, now we are linked to some good players and we are way behind other clubs in getting things moving before windows opens, I can see the smoke screen already, bet we sign more average freebies?
