Manchester City stance revealed ahead of shock Leeds United transfer

Leeds United are set to do business with Premier League champions Manchester City in January.

The two sides have done business before in previous years, most recently with the Kalvin Phillips deal. The England international left Elland Road for a huge €50million fee in 2022. Leeds also signed Manchester City midfielder Darko Gyabi from their youth side.

A few years later, you could say the only team that benefited from the deal was Leeds United, who made a huge profit off Kalvin Phillips. The midfielder was developed at the club, having joined the side in 2010. Manchester City bought him off the back of an incredible season where Phillips was named England Men’s National Team player of the year.

Darko Gyabi on the other hand, has not really panned out. But the midfielder is still 20 years old and has a future ahead of him. Gyabi has not yet broken into the first team at Elland Road, and has spent most of his time out on loan.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee. The England youth international has been a part of Manchester City’s first team this season but has only had cameos in some games.

Pep Guardiola insists McAtee is ready to start but has yet to trust him in the team by consistently starting him:

“I always had the feeling that I believe more he can play here than he does. Hopefully minutes can help him and show that he is part of that.

“Of course, he will not be a regular player this season but in a lot of games he will help us and when he plays like he did today I can always count on him perfectly.”

The latest report claims that Leeds United have strong interest in a loan deal for McAtee, and could push for a move in January. Daniel Farke has been looking for a creative player in the middle of the park since last summer, and the 22-year old would fit the bill.

McAtee would be a huge steal for the club

Leeds United may be the ideal loan spot for the youngster. A competitive team in the championship that is targeting Premier League promotion. A loan deal could even work out to be permanent if Leeds play their cards right and qualify to the Premier League.
