Leeds United’s trip to Tottenham has taken a different dimension after this weekend, when both sides won their respective Premier League fixtures.
The 3-1 win over Burnley at home on Friday night took Leeds to 43 points and virtual safety, while Tottenham climbed out of the relegation zone with an away win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
Leeds may be mathematically safe even before they take the pitch in north London on Monday night. However, the game remains massive for Spurs, who now have fresh impetus to secure another positive result at home.
West Ham need a favour from Leeds next week if they are to survive in the Premier League, but Alan Pardew has indicated that Spurs are probably on a roll at the moment.
Alan Pardew delivers huge Tottenham vs Leeds claim
Aston Villa fielded a weakened side on Saturday ahead of the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday. However, that can’t take the credit away from Spurs.
Tottenham have looked a different side under Roberto De Zerbi and have seven points from their last three Premier League games.
They outplayed Villa on Sunday with a solid performance, which augurs well for their chances of surviving in the top flight this season.
Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew believes Tottenham will beat Leeds at home next Monday night if they produce a performance of similar levels.
Talking about the Tottenham vs Leeds game, Pardew said on talkSPORT: “If you replicate that performance [against Aston Villa], you win [next Monday night].
“That performance was off the scale.”
The Whites are now in an enviable position
Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa has eased some of the pressure, but their home clash with Leeds still feels massive for Spurs.
If they beat the Whites, they could start to feel safe. Lose, and they are right back in the relegation scrap.
Alan Shearer has already stressed how crucial it is for West Ham to beat Leeds on the final day if they are to have any chance of staying up.
Leeds might already be safe by the time they face Spurs, but they could still have a big say in who ends up going down this season.
