The Premier League survival race had some fresh twists this weekend as Leeds United pulled away from the relegation zone with a 3-1 win over Burnley at home.

Leeds’ win took them to 43 points, and the club are now more or less certain to remain in the Premier League following a run of three wins and one draw in their last four games.

However, West Ham’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford and Tottenham’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa have completely flipped the script with three games left in the season.

Spurs are now out of the relegation zone, while West Ham are now 18th in the table, with Alan Shearer now uncertain about their chances of surviving in the Premier League.

Alan Shearer insists West Ham have to beat Leeds on the final day

The Hammers will play Arsenal at home next weekend before travelling to Newcastle United. They will host Leeds at the London Stadium on the final day of the season.

Alan Shearer believes West Ham are in real trouble after the weekend, and their fixture list also looks grim if they are to survive in the Premier League this season.

He stressed that it may all come down to the final day of the season, and the Hammers have to beat Leeds at home to have any chance of survival.

Shearer said on MOTD: “It’s been a terrible weekend for West Ham, with the result yesterday and the result for Spurs today.

“They have got it all to do.

“And looking at their fixtures, I think that game against Leeds United is possibly their best chance of getting three points.”

Leeds United – the kingmakers

No team with 43 points have ever been relegated from a 38-game Premier League season, and Leeds now have every reason to feel safe.

Daniel Farke does not want to celebrate yet. However, his side are more likely to decide who gets relegated rather than staring down the barrel themselves.

Premier League Bottom Six Table 2025/26 Season
Pos Team MP Pts
15 Crystal Palace 34 43
16 Nottingham Forest 34 39
17 Tottenham Hotspur 35 37
18 West Ham United 35 36
19 Burnley (Relegated) 35 20
20 Wolverhampton (Relegated) 35 18

Leeds will travel to Tottenham in a week, and the game could have major ramifications on the relegation race. The Hammers would want to see the Whites get a win in north London.

However, on the final day of the season, Leeds may have the chance to relegate West Ham if they get a result at the London Stadium.
