Leeds United made it their priority to outline the changes to the squad early in the summer window. To get new signings in, there needed to be plans in place to sell some players.

Reports claimed that first team stars Illan Meslier and Max Wober were the first names on the chopping block. Meslier has been linked with a move since the backend of last season. The latest report claims he is set on a move to Turkey. Wober has also been told to find a new club this summer, after featuring just eight times last season.

Leeds United could sell Sam Greenwood

The Whites also made the trio of Darko Gyabi, Joe Gelhard and Sam Greenwood available this summer. The former U21 stars could now have to find new homes this summer. All three were on loan away from Elland Road last season.

Some have attracted interest, including Greenwood, who has been linked to Sunderland and Birmingham City. Former Leeds star Paul Robinson thinks the forward would be a great signing for the Black Cats:

“I think he’s a top young player and I think he deserves his opportunity at the top level.” he told him MOT Leeds News.

“I think for him, if Leeds were still in the Championship this year, this year could have been a big year for him, but it would look like Farke’s not going to throw him in in the Premier League.

“A move for him to Sunderland would be excellent, and it’d give him a great opportunity to showcase his ability at the top level. I think it would be a slight gamble from Sunderland on a player that’s not played at the top level, and you would question why a fellow promotion rival is willing to let him go.“

It was revealed earlier that the forward has a £1.5million release clause in his contract.

Greenwood’s loan spell could attract buyers

Sam Greenwood has shown he can be a good player; his spells on loan away from Leeds have been impressive so far. Last season with Preston he showed his quality once again.

He was among the top players in goals and assists, and had some good numbers in the Championship. Leeds will hope he played well enough to earn a move away from Elland Road.
