Leeds United came away from north London with a point after drawing 1-1 with Tottenham, a result that keeps West Ham’s survival hopes alive for now.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted from the penalty spot after a lengthy VAR review to cancel out Mathys Tel’s opener early in the second half.
Leeds nearly snatched all three points late on, too, but the Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky produced a superb save from close range to deny Sean Longstaff.
Many pundits expected Leeds to ease off after securing survival on Sunday, but Daniel Farke’s side showed no signs of lowering their intensity against Spurs.
Jermaine Defoe lavished praise on Leeds United
Tottenham legend Defoe has conceded that Leeds looked very good against a Tottenham side who should have been more desperate to win tonight.
However, he is happy that Tottenham avoided a defeat and indicated that Kinsky’s late stop to deny a Leeds winner could prove crucial at the end of the season.
Defoe said on Sky Sports: “Leeds looked good. If you are Spurs, you are disappointed, but if you can’t win, then you make sure you don’t lose.
“That save for Kinsky from the Longstaff shot, I don’t know how he saves that. It’s one of the best saves I have seen this season.”
Jamie Carragher insisted Tottenham would later realise that they did well to get a point, as they were never going to get an easy side against a Leeds side who are desperately tough to beat.
Carragher added: “I think they will wake up tomorrow, Spurs and think that is a good point.
“That save from the Longstaff effort at the end saved them from defeat. I did think this would be a tough game.
“Leeds are a good side and a tough team to play against, and I have to say I wasn’t surprised by how the game played out.”
The Whites kept the relegation race interesting
Nuno Espirito Santo called on Leeds to do West Ham a favour after the Hammers’ defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, and the Whites answered with a strong performance.
Tottenham are now two points clear of the relegation zone, but they still face London rivals Chelsea next, with the Blues eager to damage Spurs’ survival hopes.
West Ham, meanwhile, take on a struggling Newcastle side next, and a victory could leave them in a strong position heading into the final day of the season.
But they may still need to beat a Leeds team on the final day that has already shown it has no intention of easing off despite securing Premier League survival.
