Before the summer window began, Leeds United ownership promised the fans that the club would spend ‘every penny available’ this summer. Even though the club have splashed on seven new signings, they have done it in their own way.
Smart recruitment has been the theme for Leeds United this summer. The club have taken a calculated approach to the market, addressing several needs in the past few weeks. Leeds have now gotten adequate depth in some areas, but head coach Daniel Farke still feels the club need to do a bit more before the season starts.
The club have also made sure to recruit a blend of quality and physically imposing players to match the football they will play in the top flight.

The plan is to recruit two new attacking players in the coming weeks. Plans could speed up, after potential exits are set to make their way out of the door – Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph in particular.
Leeds have had Leicester star Bilal El Khannouss on their radar for a while. Talks have been held between both parties, and a bid is expected to be submitted soon.
The Whites could benefit from a huge advantage in this situation. According to Sky Sports, Leicester need to sell to balance their books after being relegated. The club are facing sanctions for PSR breaches. The report indicate that the Foxes could be forced to sell their most valuable players, including El Khannouss, if they want avoid breaking the rules this season.
Foxes could still be involved in another deal with Leeds
Leicester City could still be involved in another transfer deal involving Leeds United. Mads Hermansen has been mentioned as one of the players they could sell to boos their PSR status. The keeper is attracting interest from Premier League sides. Ben Jacobs recently reported that Illan Meslier could be the replacement if the Danish stopper is sold:
“…My expectation is that West Ham are going to approach Leicester for Mads Hermansen, a player Leicester didn’t want to leave 12 months ago at a value of £35m,”
“…Leicester at the same time are advancing on Asmir Begovic who is available on a free transfer, they have discussed Illan Meslier at Leeds who may be available…”
That move could be in trouble, as West Ham are in talks to sign a different target this summer.
Signing El Khannouss would be a huge statement
Signing Bilal El Khannouss can help Leeds undo what happened with Igor Paixao. The club made an ambitious move to sign a heavily coveted star in Europe, but got pushed over by a top club.
This time around, Leeds can seal the deal before any other interest develops. The club have already held talks with Leicester and are very key to pay the transfer fee. El Khannouss is the kind of statement signing Leeds need to make this summer to announce their presence in the Premier League. Hopefully, the club owners follow through with their ambition.
