Leeds United are marching towards promotion to the Premier League and are expected to get the job done in the remaining eleven games of the season. If they get promoted, Leeds are acutely aware of the kind of work they would have to carry out over the summer to build a squad ready for the top flight of English football. While bringing in quality players would be a priority, the Whites also have to decide on which of their current players are good enough to perform at the top level. Some tough calls need to be taken and it seems there has already been a decision made on a certain player who will have future under the scanner in the summer.
Daniel Farke and his squad are focused on getting the job done in the last eleven games of the season and the 1-1 draw at home against West Brom showed there could be more twists and turns.
However, Leeds United are expected to get promoted to the Premier League and speculation is now rife about what could be the make-up of their squad at the end of the next summer transfer window.
Leeds need to improve the quality of their squad by several manifolds if they want to compete in the top flight as this season has shown that the gap between the Championship and the Premier League has widened exponentially.
The Whites also have decisions to make on certain players who would be returning from their loan stints in the summer and one of them has more or less flattered to deceive in the Premier League.
‘He is not of Premier League quality’ – expert writes off Leeds United winger
Jack Harrison has not scored a goal or registered an assist on loan at Everton this season despite appearing 23 times for the Merseyside outfit.
Everton have an option to buy him in the summer, but the Toffees are not keen to have him beyond the end of his two-year loan stint at the end of the season.
The Premier League club have decided not to take up the option to buy him and the winger will be allowed to return to his parent club Leeds in the summer.
Former Premier League scout Mick Brown admitted that he has never been convinced about the quality of the Leeds winger, especially in the top flight of English football.
He feels Harrison is bit too hit-and-miss to succeed in the Premier League and it is more or less certain that Everton boss David Moyes does not want him in his plans going forward.
“I don’t believe Everton are planning to keep him at the club”, he told Football Insider.
“I’ve never been convinced he’s good enough to be a regular Premier League player, I don’t think he’s consistent enough.
“He’ll have a spell in a game which catches your eye and then you won’t see him for an hour.
“Everton have got as much out of him as they could over the last two seasons, but I don’t think Moysey sees him as part of his plans.”
Leeds need to find a way to sell him in the summer
There were rumours that if Leeds get back to the Premier League, Harrison would be open to staying at Elland Road once he returned from Everton in the summer.
However, Leeds need more Premier League quality in their squad and the winger has shown little this season to suggest that he can cut it at the top level.
He is a long way from the levels he showed under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds in the top flight and it is certain that Harrison is no longer that player.
Can you name these past and present Leeds United players?
Early talks have taken place with representatives of an MLS club for the winger to potentially return to the United States in the summer transfer window.
The Whites need him to move on as the winger is on big wages and him staying would hamper their chances of bringing in new players into the squad.
A return to the US will serve both Leed and Harrison as it seems certain the winger needs to get away from England to rekindle his career next season.
